Company profile

BiCT is a company focused on the research and production of bio-molecules such as enzymes and secondary metabolites, obtained either from natural source (plant, animal and micro organism) and through recombinant DNA techniques. BiCT expertise range from molecular biology until heterologous expression, purification and immobilization of biocatalysts for selective biotransformation.
The main company goal is to provide very cost-effective and industrial scale biocatalyst and bioprocesses, tailoring them on a client specific basis, thanks to our tight cooperation with Resindion, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemicals producing chromatography and enzyme carrier resins. The R&D in molecular biology and protein expression is actually focused on GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) micro organisms, such as conventional and unconventional yeasts. The BiCT technology on biocatalysis is currently applied in several processes in different fields (from food to pharma, from nutraceutics to cosmetics).

Services and products

BiCT has a strong track record of innovative research, both internally and through grant funded collaborative research with other companies and academia. In particular, BiCT has received competitive funding at European level (e.g. FP7 KBBE Kyrobio - Eurotransbio Grant) and local level (e.g. ATP Grant from Lombardy Region).
The facilities at BiCT include general molecular biology workstations, high pressure liquid chromatography, fermentation and downstream processing equipment, process development equipment (e.g. controllable lab-scale reaction vessels with in-situ monitoring).
The main products are immobilized and free enzymes, chromatography resins and enzyme carriers.
The main services are heterologous protein and secondary metabolites expression and purification, set-up and scale-up of biocatalysis industrial processes.
