Our laboratory is set up to carry out fully automated DNA/RNA extraction from different kind of samples with different technologies (column-based systems, magnetic beads). Nucleic acid purification is a critical step and protocols and technologies can vary a lot among samples (different types or quantities). We currently offer a standardized protocol for DNA purification from 200µl of animal blood (bovine; swine). Should you be interested in preparing DNA/RNA from another tissue type (different plant tissues, bacteria, plasmid…) or different starting quantities please don't hesitate to contact us; we will be happy to plan a pilot-project to find the right solution to your request. Automation of Nucleic Acid purification allowes high throughput (96 samples in less of 1 hours), traceability (unique barcode for each extraction plates, export files with sample coordinates, log-files and error-files), precision (reproducibility and repeatability) and low contamination risk (external and cross-contamination).

We use a column-based commercial kit to extract pure genomic DNA from 200µl of whole blood. We can process blood treated either with EDTA or citrate or heparin. The kit allows purification of highly pure genomic DNA with an A260/280 ratio between 1.70 and 1.90 and an average yield of 4-6µg. Samples can be stored at room temperature, refrigerated or frozen however DNA yield and quality will slowly decrease due to prolonged storage at room temperature or refrigerated. Highest yield and quality of DNA are obtained from fresh blood. Our robot set-up allows the extraction of 96 samples in less than 1 hour.
Each purified DNA is quantified by PicoGreen analysis (cost is included in DNA extraction cost). As extra services we can offer electrophoresis on an agarose gel, OD260/280 evaluation and normalization (see prices below).
What We Need
To perform Nucleic Acid extraction we just need starting material and sample information. You can sent us vacutainers, eppendorf, deep-well plates or every kind of plastic labware; as a first step we will organize samples in starting extraction plates and we will send to you file with sample coordinates inside plates.
